Asheville, NC (October 21, 2024) – As thousands of families in Western North Carolina (WNC) continue to deal with devastation due to Hurricane Helene, Asheville Media Group (AMG) has announced the Rising Together: WNC Hurricane Relief Radiothon. The radiothon is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 from 6am until 6pm.

AMG radio stations 105.9 The Mountain (WTMT-FM), Mix 96.5 (WOXL-FM), 98.1 The River (WOXL HD2), WISE Sports Radio 1310AM (WISE), 105.5 The Outlaw (WTMT-HD3) and Rewind 100.3 (WTMT HD2) will feature stories of hope, healing and survival.

AMG’s Rising Together: WNC Hurricane Relief Radiothon is an extension of the media group’s ongoing commitment to serving the community at large by highlighting organizations and volunteers who are planning for long term relief and recovery efforts.

Partner radiothon organizations include MANNA FoodBank, Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM), Asheville Humane Society and the Center for Craft’s Craft Futures Fund. AMG radio stations will promote donations to these organizations which are focused on all aspects of assistance, from aid to people and pets to support of Western North Carolina’s creative arts community.

“This week will mark one month since Helene devasted Western North Carolina. There has been an enormous effort to bring relief, but it will take months, even years for many families impacted by Helene to rebuild”, said Tom Davis, AMG Market President. “This storm was a reminder that local radio is a vital part of the response during disasters of this kind. We’re committed to doing all we can to support our Radiothon partners and our neighbors who are hurting but fighting hard to make their way through this and rebuild.”

As Hurricane Helene moved into Western North Carolina the community found itself seemingly shut off from the modern world with no power, utilities or cell service. The only immediate source of information was local radio along with neighbors and friends who were sharing information and resources.

AMG Operations Director, Steve Richards, worked with his team to keep the media group radio stations on the air with simulcast broadcasts for the community. “Our on-air team offered comfort as we connected with listeners who were scared, alone and overwhelmed. We shared information and resources, detailing how to access food, water and gasoline”, said Richards. “We’re glad we could offer listeners a lifeline during a very difficult time.”

AMG’s Rising Together: WNC Hurricane Relief Radiothon will encourage local, regional and national participants to donate much needed support to partner organizations offering assistance and hope for Western North Carolina.
